McGill University Rolls out Software for Bilingual Website

With the help of the Destiny One software, all material on McGill University's School of Continuing Studies can be read in either English or French.

The language packs now available in Destiny Solutions' Destiny One software were one of several features announced earlier this summer with the launch of Destiny One 5.0.

McGill University's School of Continuing Studies (SCS) will now offer its public-facing websites in both English and French, thanks to new language packs in Destiny Solutions' Destiny One software. The Montreal university is the first higher education institution to take advantage of the software feature, which will help open up McGill's continuing education services to prospective students in two languages.

McGill SCS staff members now can easily publish translated content and students can set their preferred language to view it with one click. "Destiny One's language packs make translation part of the workflow so that it's easier for staff and ensures everything is uniform for students," said Rosa Greco-Pepe, finance and operations manager for McGill SCS.

The Destiny One platform supplies the connecting link between students and the university's administrative back office. The software is designed to help institutions manage and support non-traditional education programs, including professional development, non-credit continuing education and corporate-sponsored training.

In addition to the language packs, Destiny One provides search engine optimization; branded web presence; data mining; targeted marketing campaigns; dashboards for both students and administrators; and cross-marketing of courses. It offers financial and operational reporting tools such as analysis of marketing campaigns and enrollments and profitability of courses and programs. The software consolidates data across students, partners, courses and programs.

When the language packs were introduced earlier this summer as part of Destiny One 5.0, the update also included:

  • An encrypted credit card payment option that will allow registration and finance staff members to accept in-person credit card payments by swiping the card rather than typing in credit card information;
  • Seven new web services that expand the ability of Destiny One to communicate with third-party software applications;
  • Additional financial enhancements that can expand the ability to manage payments and refunds; and
  • International and specialty programs manager enhancements that allow students to use a self-service shopping cart when enrolling online.
