Penn State Athletics and EON Sports VR Launch Virtual Reality Channel

Starting this October, Pennsylvania State University sports fans will be able to view behind-the-scenes coverage of their favorite Nittany Lions teams in an immersive virtual reality experience. Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics and EON Sports VR, a virtual reality sports training and fan experience company, teamed up to create a virtual reality channel that features content from all 31 teams.

Nittany Lions fans can watch footage of practices, pre-game and post-game interviews and more on the virtual reality channel, all from their smartphones.

With LionVision VR, as the channel is called, fans will be able to access access “behind-the-scenes views of practice, pre- and post-game locker room coaches' talks and a wide array of iconic Penn State experiences, while immersed inside a customized virtual reality environment,” according to a news release. The channel is compatible with iOS (iPhone 6 or higher) and Android (Samsung S5 or equivalent) smartphone devices.

"LionVision VR will allow Nittany Lion fans spread across the world to see, hear and feel what it's like to be part of practice and game day in ways that were never previously possible,” said Michael Cross, assistant athletic director for new business development, in a statement. “This is the next best thing to being in State College. If you love Penn State, you can look forward to having regular experiences with LionVision VR.”

Penn State fans must purchase an annual subscription to access the content. LionVision VR sales open on Aug. 25 and the channel launches mid-October. The first year’s subscription is $29.95 and runs through June 30, 2017. Those who sign up before Oct. 3 will receive a free Dodocase VR headset that features Penn State’s logo.
