University of Texas System to Update Learning Platform with Personalized Support, Credentialing Tools

The University of Texas System (UT) is turning its custom learning platform into an online marketplace of courses and credentials that offers real-time feedback and personalized support services for students throughout its 14 institutions. The UT System’s Institute for Transformational Learning is working with Salesforce as well as the company’s philanthropic arm Salesforce.org to develop version 2.0 of TEx.

First launched in April 2015, the “Total Educational Experience” platform system captures millions of points of data to develop a granular view of student achievements and provide personalized support for students and instructors. TEx falls under the UTx portfolio of initiatives for personalized learning and “supports a wide range of innovative teaching methods in classrooms, laboratories and in the field that ultimately will provide richer and more accessible content for students while preserving the quality of a UT degree,” according to a statement.

Version 2.0 of TEx will be built on Salesforce’s platform and will include “software and digital tools that support students on their academic and professional journeys and increase student success.” The new version will track a student’s achievements across institutions through a permanent, blockchain-powered ChainScript that builds a portfolio of credits, competencies, micro-certificates, degrees and other information important for a student’s professional journey.

TEx 2.0 is currently in development. The UT System expects the platform will support learning initiatives “as early as Fall 2017 at multiple UT institutions.” Further information is available on the UTx site.
