Northeastern University Launches Micro Credential Program in Computer Science
Northeastern University has created a new Micro Credential program for working professionals in California's Bay Area looking to hone their skills in computer science. The program was created in partnership with mobile security company Lookout and is an extension of Northeastern's Silicon Valley campus.
Courses will be offered on weekday afternoons and evenings in Lookout's office in downtown San Francisco, a location designed to cater to the growing tech industry in the city. Topics will include data mining, parallel data processing, network security, cloud computing and mobile application development.
Students who complete three courses can earn a Micro Credential in computer science. The credential will also count as credit toward earning a master's degree in computer science at Northeastern.
"Continued education is increasingly essential in today's rapidly changing tech sector," said Carla Brodley, dean of Northeastern's College of Computer and Information Science, in a statement. "Micro Credentials and flexible graduate programs offer savvy workers the chance to boost their careers and stay ahead of the field, giving them added job security and highly relevant skills."
