New 'Flex Video Wall' Software Supports Changing Standards

Next month Black Box will begin shipping its new Radian Flex Video Wall software. The company said the platform is "infinitely upgradeable" and provides "unlimited" resolution and screen outputs. The release was demonstrated last week during InfoComm 2018 in Las Vegas.

Radian Flex supports the current 4K video output at 60 frames per second and is designed to support future video standards as well. Also, the company reported, there's no limit to the number or layout of screens the program can display to. Video streams can be daisy-chained and displayed across numerous screens. And the software includes "drag-and-drop visualization," enabling the administrator to display multiple video sources anywhere and resize windows in real time from a display to any video wall on the system.

The software is offered in two bundles: Flex and FlexPro. The first is best suited for "economical" video wall installations that don't require fail-safe operation. FlexPro includes dual controllers for failover in mission-critical applications.

"Many of our customers employ proprietary, hardware-based video wall technology that requires them to think about when they will inevitably have to purchase and install new hardware to meet ever-changing standards in resolution and picture quality," said Josh Whitney, a senior vice president for Black Box, in a press release. "As a 100-percent software-based video wall solution, Radian Flex eliminates the need to replace purpose-built hardware with a simple, cost-effective and future-proof solution. This enables our customers to upgrade or scale their video wall technology more economically, reliably and faster."
