Hobsons Upgrades Starfish Analytics with New Reporting Tools

Hobsons has introduced a number of enhancements to its Starfish Analytics product aimed at better understanding barriers to student achievement.

A new Historical Data report provides insight into historical trends in student success and achievement, allowing users to "better determine if the existing services, academic pathways, and interventions are helping to ease the challenges students face," according to a news announcement. In addition, a new Model Performance Report makes the Starfish Analytics predictive models more transparent, serving to build user trust in the use of analytics to drive decision-making, the company said.

The new reports expand on Starfish's Benchmarks dashboard (released earlier this year), which provides longitudinal comparison data from institutions with similar degree offerings, school size, demographics and more.

"It is critical to understand the needs and barriers your students face," said Howard Bell, senior vice president and general manager of Starfish by Hobsons, in a statement. "The reports within Starfish Analytics enable provosts and presidents to identify challenges their students face, and then direct resources to address those challenges."
