Students on all eight Indiana University campuses now have access to a number of new learning tools at no cost, thanks to an enterprise agreement with Top Hat.

The institution started out using the Top Hat Classroom in 2017. The student engagement platform can be utilized to take attendance, prompt discussions, share questions, get real-time feedback and more. At the time, students paid to access the technology on their own mobile devices; last year, IU student spent $665,000 on Top Hat licenses, according to a news announcement.

Now, the university is footing the bill to provide all students with access to Classroom as well as Top Hat's cloud-based teaching platform, and plans to pilot Top Hat Textbook, Top Hat Attention and Attendance, and Top Hat Assignment in fall 2018.

"The decision to partner with Top Hat really boils down to its innovative, user-friendly design and our commitment to providing best-in-class tools for student learning," said Matt Gunkel, IU director of teaching and learning technology, in a statement. "And if we can do that at no cost to our students, all the better."
