Macmillan Learning Beta Launches AI Question Creator on iClicker to First 5,000 Instructors for Testing

Macmillan Learning has launched a beta version of its AI Question Creator to run on the iClicker platform. The generative AI-driven application creates unique questions that can be used for quizzes, assignments, and polls, the company said.

The first 5,000 instructors can sign up for a free account to test the application through May 2024, with commercial launch planned for the fall. Each instructor beta testing the tool can create up to 50 questions in minutes.

Features of the app include:

  • Instructors testing the app can input questions of any type from any discipline or topic, specify the rigor level, course level, and learning taxonomy, and either show or hide answers to students;
  • Instructors can create and adapt questions to individual student readiness, as needed;
  • The tool creates unique questions, "not easily searchable online," the company said, to give information on students' understanding of course material and foster academic integrity; and
  • Questions are generated in real time for instant student access and to support timely and effective student learning.

iClicker was developed by physicists and researchers from the University of Illinois, Macmillan said. It creates "a user-friendly and immersive active learning environment before, during, and after class by fostering active learning. It works by creating opportunities for quizzing, group collaboration, and polling. Students can answer anonymously how confident they are in the day's learning, and instructors have real-time insights about students' comprehension."
