CourseCast Lecture Capture System Integrates with Moodle

Panopto this week announced that it has developed a module to integrate CourseCast with the open source learning management system Moodle. Moodle. CourseCast is a lecture capture platform that is available free for academic institutions.

According to Panopto, its soon-to-be-released module allows users to publish CourseCast presentations directly to Moodle.

CourseCast is a lecture capture platform designed for capturing, editing, and streaming audio and video from presentations to the Web. Captured materials can be searched, linked, and annotated through the software, and recorded materials can be embedded in popular course management systems.

Through Panopto's Socrates Project, CourseCast is available to academic institutions for free in exchange for those institutions participating in beta programs aimed at further enhancing the software.

Lubbock Christian University in Texas is a Moodle campus. According to Bill Kopf, director of distance learning for LBU, the university will be using CourseCast in conjunction with Moodle.

"Moodle provides faculty, administrators and students with the tools they need to ensure classroom learning does not end when they leave the classroom," Kopf said in a prepared statement released today, "Now with the addition of Panopto, LCU will be able to use Moodle not only for posting notes and PowerPoint slides, but also for recording media-rich videos that can help foster an innovative and collaborative learning environment."

With more than 24 million users participating in more than 2.2 million courses at more than 35,000 registered sites worldwide, Moodle is generally recognized as the most popular learning management system available. It supports both small and large deployments (with several sites well beyond 100,000 users) and includes course management tools, various Web 2.0 technologies, online assessments, and other features common to learning management systems.

Panopto said the integration option will be available to Moodle users "within the coming weeks." Further information can be found here.
