CES To Host Higher Ed Tech Summit

The Consumer Electronics Association is branching out into education technology. CEA is partnering with Living in Digital Times to host a new Higher Ed Tech Summit at its annual International CES conference in Las Vegas in 2010.

According to CES organizers, the Higher Ed Tech Summit and Exhibition will spotlight technology in higher education with a particular focus on students and the technologies they bring to campus and use on campus for social and academic endeavors.

Organizers described it this way: "Today's college students are robust consumers of Information Age technologies. With a single keystroke they access information that would take hours to locate in a brick-and-mortar library, if it could be found at all. They attend classes, participate in seminars and discussion groups, and submit their work remotely, sometimes from across the country and sometimes from halfway around the world. They load their dorm rooms with the latest gadgets and cram their cellphones with the latest apps. The Higher Ed Tech Summit will shine a spotlight on the key issues of high-tech higher education."

The event, one of five "demographic-specific technology events" to be held at next year's CES conference, will be directed by Jinny Goldstein, former senior vice president for education at PBS and former vice president for education and strategy at Smarterville.

The Higher Ed Tech Summit will be held during CES Jan. 8, 2010. Attendee and exhibitor information can be found here.
