SkySync Added to Internet2 Net+ Portfolio
Portal
Architects has added its SkySync software to the
portfolio of Internet2
NET+, a community of higher education institutions
founded in 1996 to solve technology challenges they all share.
Portal Architects' SkySync software gives
organizations — and now,
universities — cloud-based storage capabilities that allows them to
sync,
migrate and copy files, folders, sites and entire file structures across
diverse storage systems.
Internet2 Senior Vice President Shelton Waggener said
that
making the SkySync software available to its member institutions will
allow
them to "streamline the way they move data, whether from legacy
on-premise
systems to the cloud or in between multiple cloud storage and
collaboration
services."
Internet2 operates the largest and fastest research
and
education network, serving more than 90,000 community institutions, 260
United States
universities, 65 government agencies, 40 regional and state education
networks
and 85 corporations.
Internet2 representatives said a number of institutions
have already
taken advantage of SkySync to synchronize network home drives and other
systems
to their cloud storage service.
Among the institutions taking advantage was Morehouse
College in
Atlanta, which used it to perform a large migration from its network
file share
(NFS) to the cloud.
"SkySync automatically synced our NFS with our box
account so
that all of the information was up to date," said Morehouse College CIO
Clifford Russell, in a prepared statement. "We recommended SkySync for the Internet2 NET+
portfolio as a
trusted tool that all universities should consider while addressing
their
storage needs."
