Florida Atlantic U Adopts WebFocus for Data Management

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has implemented a data management system from Information Builders to track and analyze data across multiple departments. The system, WebFocus, is being used in conjunction with technologies from SunGard Higher Education.

FAU will use WebFocus to capture institutional data for reporting, analysis, forecasting, and other applications. Information will be used across a range of departmental users, including budgeting, human resources, payroll, and finance using WebFocus ReportCaster, which allows for scheduling, distribution and sharing of information to selected staff, students, and faculty via e-mail. Using these tools, FAU has created self-service reporting applications to be used across the campus.

Jeff Schilit, chief information officer of information resource management at FAU, said, "We ... truly believe that the WebFocus solution provides us with much needed tools to better mine our data and to generate real-time reports in easy to view and understand formats."

FAU said it plans to expand its use of WebFocus and will offer student reports, including grades and activities, by October 2007. The university currently serves some 26,000 undergrads on seven campuses in Southeast Florida.
