Novell Joins OpenCourseWare Consortium

Enterprise solutions provider Novell has joined the OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC), the company announced this week. OCWC is an initiative among the higher education community to promote the development and implementation of open-source education materials.

"In the spirit of the open source software model, the OpenCourseWare Consortium is a collaboration of over 100 institutions worldwide working to promote the free and open digital publication of high quality educational materials, organized as courses," said John Dehlin, director of the OpenCourseWare Consortium, in a prepared statement. "It is only fitting that Novell, a leader in open source and a pioneer in IT training, is among the first commercial enterprises to join the Consortium. We warmly welcome Novell to the OpenCourseWare Consortium, and hope this serves as a model for more commercial enterprises to share their knowledge in the education arena."

Novell, for its part, said that promoting open source is "crucial" to its mission. The company said it will contribute 10 training courses to OCWC, including introductory courses on Linux and various courses on Linux and Open Enterprise Server migration.

In related news, Novell also announced the Novell Certified Linux Desktop Administrator 10 program for SUSE Linux Enterprise desktop.
