Universities To Upgrade Army Readiness Technology

The Army awarded a $215 million contract to a consortium of four universities to help manage the Army High Performance Computing Research Center (AHPCRC).

The grant, which went to New Mexico State University, Stanford University, Morgan State University, and the University of Texas at El Paso, is designed to help the Army improve its "operational readiness" in areas including lightweight combat systems survivability, computational nanotechnologies, computational battlefield systems, and algorithmic development.

The Army's AHPCRC does research in computational science and high performance scientific computing. The contract will help the Center design high performance computer technologies, as well as increase the use of modeling and simulation technologies, the Army said.
