Georgia DTAE To Standardize Student Evaluations, Planning Surveys

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (GDTAE), which oversees the Technical College System of Georgia, said it plans to standardize on Scantron's Class Climate and eListen systems in order to standardize the surveys it conducts with students.

GDTAE conducts these surveys regularly in order to gather student opinion on how Georgia technical colleges can improve education programs and services. GDTAE previously used a variety of automated and manual systems to conduct these polls in its 34 technical colleges.

"In technical colleges, we typically don't have the number of staff that universities do, although we have to perform many of the same tasks," said Kathryn Hornsby, director of accountability and institutional effectiveness for DTAE. "We need to find ways to work smarter. We also want to provide schools with a choice in the type of software they use, and the option to conduct paper or Web-based surveys. Scantron's solutions will allow our colleges to conduct surveys in a more efficient, consistent manner, and provide the flexibility to meet their specific needs."

Scatron's eListen will be deployed at 11 technical colleges for creating and deploying surveys and collecting and analyzing data to support planning. Class Climate will be deployed in 19 technical colleges for performing evaluations and gathering feedback from students on instructor performance and student interests.

GDTAE's colleges  serve about 150,000 students. The department also operates technical education divisions at four state universities.
