VoIP Network Smoothes Medical Campus Transition for UCH
Aurora, CO-based University of Colorado Hospital tapped voice over IP (VoIP) and data communications provider NEC Unified Solutions to create a scalable IP/TDM voice network to help deliver enhanced patient care at its new and growing Anschutz Medical Campus.
NEC technicians, as well as its Volunteer Services Group, implemented the new communications system, helped hospital staff move equipment and provided technical support during its June 15 through 17 move to the new campus, which is estimated at 2.3 million gross square feet of education, patient care and research space.
The goal was a seamless transition with no disruption in patient or caregiver communications, and to that end, the campus started operations in full on June 18.
"The Anschutz Medical Campus represents the University of Colorado's vision for the future of healthcare," said Joe Bajek, UCH's director of information technology, in a prepared statement. "NEC's volunteers and onsite technicians ensured our staff and patients experienced the least disruption possible during our transition to the new campus."
At the heart of the new system are an NEC Univerge NEAX 2400 IPX Internet Protocol exchange (which takes the place of a traditional private branch exchange), a Univerge NEAX 2000 IPS, and a Univerge SV7000 IP telephony server.
These systems provide VoIP/TDM interoperability and enhanced IP communications services to more than 2,000 staff members at the new site, as well as more than 300 hospital patient rooms using NEC's DtermIP desksets and MH140h mobile handsets.
