New CIO Staff Credential: Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics

Duke University named John Board, an associate professor and associate chair of electrical and computer engineering, as its associate chief information officer, Duke Chief Information Officer Tracy Futhey said.

Board, who holds a masters in electrical engineering from Duke, also sports a doctorate in theoretical physics from Oxford University.

Board will divide his duties between the Pratt School of Engineering and the CIO's office. "One of John's primary responsibilities will be to champion the innovative and appropriate use of information technology and provide leadership in balancing needs and benefits against technical and financial considerations," Futhey said. "This supports Duke's commitment to innovation, part of our highest-order goals outlined in Making a Difference, Duke's strategic plan."
