Encrypted Wireless Keyboard Offers 100-Foot Range

Wireless Computing has introduced a new wireless keyboard designed for classroom use, the RF-240 AES Secure Wireless Keyboard, which provides AES encryption and a 100-foot range through an RF link to its USB-based receiver.

The Advanced Encryption Standard, which has been adopted by the federal government, is an encryption algorithm whose 128-bit key offers security against invasive action from outside computers.

The device's additional features include:

  • Two-way digital RF wireless communication;
  • More than 65,000 digital addresses to prevent crosstalk;
  • Plug and play (no software or drivers necessary);
  • Battery-operated (runs on two AA batteries, included);
  • Compatibility with Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux systems; and
  • One-year warranty.

The 110-key RF-240 is priced at $199 and is expected to be available in August. Preorders are being accepted now. Further information is available here.
