Hofstra U Overhauls Continuing Ed Management

Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY has selected Jenzabar's Non-Traditional System (NTS) administrative software to manage the university's non-credit enrollments in its continuing education program. According to Colleen Slattery, associate executive director of continuing education, Hofstra sought a product that was flexible enough to handle the unique registration needs of the hundreds of workshops, seminars, conferences, lectures, events, and courses it offers to adult learners.

"Jenzabar's Non-Traditional System will allow us to merge our non-traditional operations onto a single database and significantly increase the level of service we provide to students, faculty, and internal offices," said Slattery. "Hofstra plans to utilize the software to help us manage enrollments and reach our key retention goals."

Many institutions of higher education use software systems for managing traditional academic courses that can't accommodate the scheduling and payment options typical of continuing education programs. Jenzabar NTS is a Web-based service that integrates with a school's enterprise resource planning system to provide registration and course management functionality; workflow-enabled course approval and e-mail notification; e-commerce capabilities; and financial tools for planning and managing budgets, calculating gross margin, and doing break-even analysis.
