SIM2 Debuts HDR LCD Monitors Using Dolby Vision

SIM2 has announced the Solar Series, a high-dynamic-range (HDR)-enabled LCD flat-screen display technology. SIM2's Solar Series includes a 47-inch LCD display incorporating Dolby Vision technology, which provides LED backlighting.

Dolby Vision technology improves the color by controlling each LED residing behind the LCD panel. By selectively turning off the backlight behind black areas in scenes, those areas produce blacker blacks. The technology also allows the LEDs to brighten areas as well. The result is higher contrast, higher brightness and greater color depth. In fact, SIM2 said the 16-bit processing for HDR signals produces 65,536 shades per color.

Additional specifications include:

  • Display: LCD panel and power LED BLU (2,206 high-power LEDs) plus HDR technology
  • Peak brightness: greater than 4,000 cd/m2;
  • Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080;
  • Contrast ratio (full on/full off): greater than 1,000,000:1;
  • Full 16-bit-per-channel processing (65,536 shades per color);
  • Luminance uniformity: more than 95 percent through the LCD panel;
  • Adjustable white point;
  • Professional inputs, including HD-SDI; and
  • Silicon: Xilinx Virtex field programmable gate array (FPGA) chipsets.
