American Public U Ramps Up CMS To Tackle Expanding Scope of Web Operations

A two-institution online university system with 77,000 students has broadened its use of a content management system from Systems Alliance. American Public University and American Military University have purchased an unlimited enterprise license for SiteExecutive to build its public Web sites.

The content management software includes workflow management, version control, individual and group access, and automatic reconfiguration of content for proper display on the desktop or mobile devices. The latest version, SiteExecutive 2011, was released in mid-January. New features include the ability to pull together videos from external sources, such as YouTube and Vimeo, and organize them for playback on Web pages; a revamped calendar function that allows for the creation of multiple calendars that can be rolled up into an aggregated view; and an updated profile directory that supports the creation of customizable profiles that can accommodate uploads of photos and documents as well as numerous fields.

"Since initially licensing SiteExecutive, we have greatly expanded the scale and scope of our Web operations to help keep pace with our anticipated growth," said American Public University System CIO Dale Young. "During that time, it has provided a reliable and flexible platform for creating, managing, and delivering diverse Web content." Young previously served as an executive vice president at Systems Alliance.

The company has also provided consulting, design, development, and project management services to the university system. This work includes the development of several custom applications. One is a class schedule that dynamically compiles and displays information about program requirements, course offerings, schedules, faculty, and textbook requirements. Another is a transfer credit evaluation program that allows applicants to assess whether their coursework from other institutions will transfer to an American Public university.
