Moodlerooms To Launch Plug-In for Live@edu Integration

Moodlerooms will release a free plug-in designed to integrate open-source learning management system Moodle with Microsoft's Live@edu services. It will be available for download from Moodle.org on Thursday, February 23.

With the new plugin Microsoft Outlook Live, which provides 10 GB of storage per student for e-mail and calendar storage, will be directly available through Moodle 1.9 and 2. Outlook Live also includes protection from phishing attacks, spam, and viruses. Students will receive school domain e-mail addresses.

Additional features of the plug-in include:

  • Access to Windows Live Messenger, which allows students to send instant messages, make video calls, and update social networking status;
  • The ability to use the Bing search engine through Moodle; and
  • The option to log in to Moodle courses using a Windows Live ID.

Microsoft's Live@edu services are compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

Downloading the plug-in under General Public Licensing will not require any additional agreements, besides the open-source license agreement from Moodle.
