Lynda.com Tackles Blended Learning

At the Campus Technology 2012 conference taking place this week in Boston, Laurie Burruss, professor at Pasadena City College and education consultant for lynda.com, will offer up tips for faculty members looking to move their teaching "beyond the classroom walls."

The session will look at ways technology can be used to "create a blended learning environment supplemented by in-class and out-of-class resources," according to lynda.com. "Additionally, Burruss will discuss how the teacher and students can evaluate as a group which activities should occur in valuable face-to-face time in the classroom and which can take place outside the walls of the classroom anywhere and at any time."

The session, "Beyond the Classroom Walls: Reinventing Yourself, Your Class and Your Teaching Methods," will look at project management, textbook alternatives, collaborative tools, and other technologies educators can use to expand learning beyond the physical classroom. It will take place July 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Seaport World Trade Center.

"Teaching and learning models are rapidly changing, moving away from addressing what students need to focus on what students want to achieve personally," according to lynda.com. "As teaching moves from the classroom to the cloud and online aggregated resources rapidly replace textbooks, this paradigm shift and the resulting innovative changes free teachers to rethink the traditional classroom and consider offering a variety of online resources that might be free, third party or open source."

Lynda.com is exhibiting at the show in booth 742 throughout the week.

In other show news, Gary Frenkel, from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania delivered a luncheon address with Jeff Keyes, senior product marketing manager at IT systems management company Kaseya to tackle innovative approaches to IT systems management in higher education. Kaseya is exhibiting at the show in booth 846, where it's showcasing its IT systems management software bundle for education.
