DH2i Launches DxEnterprise Container Management for Windows Server
DH2i has released
DxEnterprise,
application container management software for Microsoft Windows Server
mid-to-enterprise class applications and workloads.
According to the company, DxEnterprise decouples Windows Server application
instances from a physical server, virtual machine (VM) or cloud server through a
container called a virtual host (Vhost). Each Vhost consists of a logical
computer name, an associated IP address, Vhost management metadata and portable
native NTFS volumes, according to information from the company. The containers
share an instance of Windows Server and then are stacked on virtual or physical
servers.
The company claims this "containerization" of Windows Server application
instances can provide numerous benefits, including fast and transparent
application portability, hyperscale cloud-like agility and ensured high
availability, as well as easier provisioning, testing, deployment and management
of applications.
Key features of DxEnterprise include:
- Lightweight shared operating system Vhost technology;
- Protection from infrastructure, operating system and application faults;
- Quality of service controls and automation to monitor application
performance;
- Multiple workflow insertion points for conditional logic coordination
with event handling;
- Resource management within and between containers;
- Alerts if workloads fail to meet performance thresholds;
- Dependency coordination and failover; and
- Support for future Windows-based application containers.
