U California Grants A-G Approval for 10 Shmoop Courses

Ten online courses from digital publisher Shmoop have recently earned a-g approval from the University of California (UC), bringing the total number of a-g courses offered by the company to 20.

The a-g requirements are designed to ensure that students have a broad body of general knowledge to add perspective to further study. Courses that fulfill the requirements "must be approved by UC and appear on the institution's 'a-g' course list," according to information on UC's a-g site. "These courses are to be academically challenging, involving substantial reading, writing, problems and laboratory work (as appropriate), and show serious attention to analytical thinking, factual content and developing students' oral and listening skills."

Online courses receiving a-g approval must also meet iNACOL's National Standards for Quality Online Courses.

A complete list of a-g approved courses offered by Shmoop is available at shmoop.com. Users can access all of Shmoop's courses and test prep resources for a monthly subscription of $24.68. Bulk discounts are available for schools and districts.
