Saint Leo U and RobotLab Partner to Build AI and Robotics Lab on Campus

Saint Leo University and RobotLab recently announced a partnership to build an artificial intelligence and robotics lab on the nonprofit university's residential campus in Pasco County, FL. The facility will be utilized for the university's new Bachelor of Science degree in robotics and AI.

The lab will be organized in modules, according to a news announcement, to allow students to rotate between AI stations and engage with multiple disciplines in robotics and AI studies. Stations will include Smart Transportation, Humanoid Robotics, Industry, Space Exploration/Robotics, and Autonomous AI Agent Station.

"Equipped with robots of all kinds and computers, the lab will provide students with the hands-on experience they need to prepare for careers in this high-demand and growing field," said Derek Mohammad, dean of the School of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data Science.

Saint Leo University, a private, nonprofit Catholic liberal arts institution, offers 62 degree programs and serves over 16,000 students each year at 16 education centers in five states. It also offers online learning. More information can be found on the university's robotics and AI degree page.

RobotLab, established in 2007, is an educational robotics company that launched the Engage! K–12 program to use robots to teach students in a variety of subjects. It also offers robots for other applications.

California AI Watermarking Bill Garners OpenAI Support

ChatGPT creator OpenAI is backing a California bill that would require tech companies to label AI-generated content in the form of a digital "watermark." The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
