Western Illinois University Hit with Security Breach
On June 5, hackers obtained access to at least 180,000 Social Security and credit card numbers stored on Western Illinois University’s student service servers (used for the school bookstore, hotel, financial aid services, and admissions Web site). A spokeswoman for the school said the breach was discovered just hours after it occurred and affected people have been notified by e-mail and letters… (CNET News.com)

Hacker Breaks Into UT Computer With Workers' Information
The University of Tennessee joins the list of schools suffering from security breaches. Roughly 36,000 university employees’ personal information was exposed over a period of nine months. So far, there is no evidence of this information being used illegally. The assistant vice president for information technology said, “Every precaution is being taken to safeguard security, including a thorough review of file storing and sharing and strengthening security measures in the affected area.”… (WorldNow and WATE)
