PROJECTOR WITH USB
Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America’s Presentation Products Division
has announced the XD435U-G projector, the company’s first projector
to offer a USB flash memory reader. Users can connect a USB
thumb drive and display saved JPEG or MPEG files such as photos or short video clips,
without the need of a computer. The XD435U-G also includes: a rapid power-down feature, allowing it to cool down quickly
to accommodate tight classroom schedules; 2500 ANSI lumens, a brightness viewable in most lighting situations, including
windowed classrooms; and Texas Instruments’ DLP technology. MSRP: $2,495.
AUTOMATED LECTURE PODCASTING
New from Anystream: Apreso Podcast, an enterprise podcasting solution that allows institutions to make
lectures available for playback on Apple iPods, iTunes, or any MP3 player. Apreso Podcast automates the
tasks required to capture, encode, manage, and distribute lecture podcasts, via Apreso Content Manager,
which acts as a rich-media control center for lecture podcasting. Administrators can schedule semester-
long audio lecture capture and specify where and how each lecture should be published. The solution
is compatible with key university systems, appearing with a recognizable icon in Blackboard/WebCT
course pages or within pre-defined content categories in iTunes U. Apreso’s open architecture and XMLbased
API also enables universities to integrate Apreso Podcast with in-house developed course management systems and
podcast servers. Price: $10,000 for a site license.
WIRELESS PRESENTATION
NewSoft has unveiled two new wireless presentation solutions, WMS 100 Image and WMS 200 Image/Video. By attaching the WMS 100 receiver box
to a projector, users can transmit screen-captured images fluently from any
WiFi-enabled Windows-based notebook or PC. Standard WEP encryption/decryption ensures transmission security,
enabling users to set passwords and prevent unauthorized access. The WMS 200 Image/Video adds video to the mix, allowing
transmission of MPEG-1/2 videos to an SVGA/XVGA projector, in real time. WMS 100 price: $279.95. The WMS 200 ships in early October for $399 to $449; pricing not finalized at press time.
