Santa Clara U Adds Screen Time with Digital Signage

Santa Clara University has adopted Cisco Digital Media System digital signage to communicate information about events, class updates, and safety concerns to the campus community in real time.

"Today's students have very different preferences in communication media and very different expectations about the immediacy of communications than their predecessors of even a few years ago," said Ronald Danielson, CIO and vice provost for information services. "The Cisco Digital Media System provides us with a more effective way to reach current students with updated class information, last-minute room changes, and other important campus communications."

The system sold by the company can also include modules such as the Cisco Desktop Video Portal to feed live and prerecorded lectures to students' desktops and Cisco Enterprise TV, which delivers campus television and campus-produced and commercial video on demand to large displays in dorm lounges and classrooms and which students can select and control with a remote control. With the addition of encoders, campus television can also replace cable television systems on campus.

Hill College in Hillsboro, TX; Elon University in Elon, NC; and the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, NV are also using components of the Cisco system.
