Bank Street College Gets TippingPoint To Monitor Network Exploits

Bank Street College of Education in New York City has selected the TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) to monitor for network attacks. The IT staff is using firewalls and an antivirus solution, but wanted to see what types of security exploits were targeting its network and report back to auditors how these exploits were being blocked.
The IT team evaluated solutions from a number of vendors. Part of the evaluation included implementing solutions side-by-side and in-line to compare the ease of deployment, user friendliness of the interface, type of reporting, and ability to scale.
In May 2009 Bank Street chose TippingPoint IPS, as well as the TippingPoint Security Management System (SMS).
"We have to account for the staff time necessary to review reports and maintain the box in their respective environments--and this is where TippingPoint really stood out," said Christina D'Aiello, associate director and network manager at the College of Education. "Overall, we found that the TippingPoint solution was the easiest solution to navigate and the categorization of events (application, infrastructure, performance) was much more intuitive. Further, TippingPoint's rate shaping and traffic quarantine capabilities--which were a primary reason for including them in the search--were simple to find and implement."
