ViewSonic Enhances MultiClient Computer Offerings

ViewSonic has expanded its MultiClient line of desktop virtualization products to include two new zero client plug-and-play adapters, the VMA15 and VMA25, and it has added support for Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 and Userful MultiSeat Linux 2011. These enhancements are intended to make it easier for schools to create and manage their own private cloud computing environments.

In a classroom environment, students share a single desktop by using the MultiClient adapter computer stations to connect to the MultiClient host server. The adapters include ports for peripherals such as a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Up to 10 VMA15 adapters can connect over USB to a MultiClient server located in the same classroom, while up to 20 VMA25 adapters can connect over an Ethernet LAN to a MultiClient server located anywhere in the building. Erik Willey, LCD monitor and PC product marketing director for ViewSonic, claims that the MultiClient solution is ideal for computer labs, classrooms, and libraries and that it simplifies IT management by eliminating compatibility issues.

Key features of the ViewSonic MultiClient VMA15 and VMA25 include:

  • Support for Microsoft MultiPoint Server 2011 or Userful MultiSeat Linux 2011 operating system;
  • Four USB ports on each adapter for connecting multiple peripherals;
  • USB 2.0 network connectivity on the VMA15 and 10/100/1000 Mb Ethernet network connectivity on the VMA25;
  • One video port for connecting a monitor;
  • Audio in and out ports for connecting a microphone and headphones or speakers; and
  • Plug-and-play setup.

The VMA15 and VMA25 MultiClient adapters are available now. They have an estimated street price of $91 to $167 for the VMA15 and $121 to $194 for the VMA25. The VMS700 MultiClient Server runs $1,149 to $1,781. Further information about ViewSonic MultiClient can be found on the ViewSonic site.
