Moxa has released an 802.11n wireless access point for outside usage that works in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio frequencies. The AWK-6232 series delivers a data rate of up to 300 Mbps and was designed to address the need for faster transmission speeds and wider coverage in exterior networks.
The device's dual 2.4/5 GHz RF permit two independent wireless connections over different frequencies, which can provide more flexibility in installations where electromagnetic interference is a problem. The unit is housed in a metal enclosure that can withstand extreme heat and cold, moisture, corrosive liquids, and shock, according to the company. The list price is $3199.
"Anyone who has suffered download delays or interruptions on an outdoor wireless network should welcome the AWK-6232, our top-of-the-line, high-bandwidth outdoor wireless solution," said Product Marketing Manager Ariana Drivdahl.
Although Moxa products have been used in projects at MIT, the company is better known for supplying networking and other computing gear to industry, including rail, energy, oil and gas, marine, and mining.
