U Iowa Upgrades Virtual Desktop Service

The University of Iowa is upgrading its virtual desktop service in an effort to improve speed and performance.

The university is adopting new hardware to run XenDesktop 7.5 App Edition from Citrix, which "will offer a more unified look and feel across platforms with an 'app store-like' interface," according to a news release.

"The Virtual Desktop service provides remote access to many University-licensed Windows applications from anywhere and without having to obtain and install the software on your own computer," according to information released by U Iowa. "Instead, you need only install the Citrix Receiver software, which allows you to make a remote connection to applications that are running in the datacenter. Nearly all platforms are supported, including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, Android and others."

More information about the University of Iowa's virtual desktop service is available at its.uiowa.edu.
