5 Schools Tap Private Partner for ResNet Services

Duke University, Clemson University, Auburn University at Montgomery, University of South Florida and Georgia Southern University have all partnered with Apogee to upgrade their video and residential networks (ResNet).

Students living on campus have growing expectations for Internet access and entertainment options, according to Apogee. "In order for students to seize the opportunities created by an increasingly connected world, higher education institutions must now provide reliable data and video network capabilities that seamlessly adapt and scale to changing student demand," said Charles Brady, CEO of Apogee, in a prepared statement.

Apogee will provide the universities with network upgrades, 24/7 support and real-time monitoring and troubleshooting tools, and students can expect a "living experience on par with at-home access," according to the company.

Key features of Apogee's ResNet service include:

  • Wall-to-wall wireless networking to provide mobile access to all residential areas, including laundry rooms, games rooms and outdoor areas;
  • 24-hour student services, including support for personal devices such as smartphones and DVRs, as well as desktop and laptop computers;
  • Professional installation and testing services;
  • 24-hour monitoring of network security and reliability; and
  • Customized solutions.

The company's ResNet services also support video-over-IP, so students can tune in to television broadcasts from their personal computer, according to information on the company's site. They can access the service from any Web browser on a computer running Windows, Mac or Linux operating systems, without the need to install any additional software. The service offers live distribution of cable TV feeds and remote broadcasts of live events in real-time, as well as on-demand or scheduled delivery of entertainment and academic programs.

Further information about Apogee's ResNet services can be found on the company's site.
