Adobe Creative Cloud Suite Gets New Android Apps, Updates for Photoshop and Dreamweaver

Adobe showcased a plethora of new and upcoming features in the Creative Cloud suite at its Adobe MAX 2016 conference, taking place Nov. 2 to 4 in San Diego, CA.

Adobe Creative Cloud is a suite of software tools for drawing, page layout, photo editing, video editing and web design. The company updated the user interface throughout the suite, updated the coding engine in Dreamweaver CC and added a new universal search bar in Photoshop that lets users search for tools, panels, menus, Adobe Stock assets, help content and tutorials. Adobe has also released several new Android apps, including Photoshop Sketch, Adobe Comp CC and Photoshop Fix.

One of the major announcements at the event's kick-off was the unveiling of Adobe Sensei, a new framework and set of intelligent services built into the Adobe Cloud platform. Adobe Sensei uses machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning capabilities to help automate mundane tasks and improve search capabilities, according to the company. New Creative Cloud features that use Adobe Sensei include Adobe Stock Visual Search and Photoshop's Match Font and Face-Aware Liquify.

Other Creative Cloud features announced at Adobe MAX include:

  • A new version of Adobe Experience Design CC (XD) for the Mac, including support for Layers and Symbols;
  • Project Felix, a new design tool that lets graphic designers combine two- and three-dimensional visuals into photo-realistic images;
  • Updates to Adobe Premiere Pro CC, including auto-aware virtual reality (VR) that detects and applies the correct setting to stereoscopic and monoscopic media; and
  • New Cinema 4D renderer in After Effects to improve speed and quality of 3D content generation.

In the keynote speech at the launch of Adobe MAX 2016, Shantanu Narayen, president and CEO of Adobe, described how the latest features in Creative Cloud are moving closer to his ultimate vision of "a creative process that redefines how we all work, where we have true location independence, moving seamlessly from desktop to mobile to the web without losing anything in translation; where you have your assets at your fingertips; and where training and help and inspiration are there even before you know you're going to run into a problem…. We are making progress towards this vision."

Adobe will ship Creative Cloud desktop software updates to Creative Cloud members before the end of the year. New and updated mobile apps are available now for free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
