Sonic Foundry Debuts Mini Appliance for Compact Affordable Video Capture

Sonic Foundry today announced the Mediasite RL Mini, a scaled-down device for recording video and lecture materials in low-tech classrooms. The compact plug-and-play unit can be mounted anywhere, is fully automated and schedulable, and can be run from Sonic Foundry's Mediasite Video Platform or Mediasite Video Cloud to support live and on-demand streaming, according to the company.

Features include:

  • High-quality video recording;
  • Optional live- and on-demand streaming capability;
  • Dual full-motion capture of content and video;
  • Full integration with the Mediasite platform; and
  • Local and remote confidence monitoring for audio, video and content quality.

All captured content is automatically published to Mediasite Video Platform or Mediasite Video Cloud, "providing students instant access to valuable video study materials, and providing system administrators everything they need to manage, secure, share, search and track the video content," the news announcement said.

"Faculty and staff are adopting more innovative, video-centric teaching strategies which means demand for academic video in every classroom, and beyond, is strong and growing," said Gary Weis, CEO of Sonic Foundry, in a statement. "The RL Mini is designed to provide customers with an additional option for bringing video and lecture capture into places they wouldn't otherwise go due to technical and budget constraints."

MSRP for the Mediasite RL Mini starts at $2,995. For more information, visit the Sonic Foundry site.
