Campus Newspapers to Begin Publishing Weekly Snapchat Stories

In the “Discover” section of Snapchat, students at dozens of colleges and universities will soon notice video stories produced by their campus newspaper teams.

Through a partnership with the popular social media app, newspaper teams will begin to produce weekly “Campus Publisher Stories” — or aggregated videos from individual Snapchat users that are publicly visible to users on campus. Discover currently features stories produced by many of the biggest news organizations in the country, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Buzzfeed and Vice.

Initially, teams at University of California, Berkeley, Texas A&M, Syracuse and the University of Wisconsin–Madison will launch stories, but others will be added in the coming months, Business Insider reported. They will be able to utilize Snap Ads like other news organizations "to help each school monetize and grow their newspaper through a revenue sharing agreement,” the announcement stated.

“School newspapers play a critical role in informing and entertaining their campus communities, and they are often where the many leading journalists and editors that we work with got their start,” Snapchat wrote in the announcement. “We are honored to partner with talented students across the country to empower the next generation of journalists and we can't wait to see what they create.”
