Morehouse College Creates VR Campus and Classes

Atlanta's Morehouse College is launching an immersive virtual reality experience for students in two of its courses: Biology 105 and History 112.

Students will use an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Platform, to access a digitized version of the Morehouse campus and attend class. The digital campus and learning objects were created by AR/VR content provider VictoryXR. Students will be able to virtually attend class together in real time, and engage in activities such as digging for fossils, expanding a human heart and stepping inside it, beaming up to a spaceship for an astronomy lesson, and more.

"Higher ed must not be afraid to take remote learning to a more immersive and effective level," said faculty member Ovell Hamilton, who is teaching the history course, in a statement. "With this virtual reality campus, students will be able to travel back in time and stand on a Naval carrier or travel to places across the globe."

"Standing together with students and learning about deadly serious health issues with a human reproductive system in the classroom will take learning to a new level," commented Ethel Vereen, the faculty member teaching the biology course. "We are very excited to pioneer learning in VR."
