Syracuse University Libraries Upgrades Digital Platform

Syracuse University Libraries has selected the Quartex platform from Adam Matthew Digital to house its digital collections. The hosted digital asset management platform will allow the libraries to showcase and share their archival materials both with students and scholars within the university and with users around the globe.

Quartex will help the libraries make their collections more discoverable and searchable, according to a news announcement, by enabling improved metadata and full-text searching of audio and video transcription files. In addition, the platform's Handwritten Text Recognition technology uses algorithms and artificial intelligence to improve the searchability of content and enhance the user experience.

"Adoption of this new platform will make it easier for Syracuse students and faculty to use our important collections in their courses and research," said Déirdre Joyce, head of the Syracuse University Libraries Digital Library Program, in a statement. "In addition, we are working with the Quartex team to take advantage of innovative enhancements to their product, including greater platform accessibility, integration with third-party media players, expanding capabilities in the creation and use of transcript files for handwritten and audiovisual assets, and other practices that will enhance our digital stewardship work."
