U. Alberta Makes Deal for eLearning Conferencing Tech

The University of Alberta said it is acquiring a platform to add synchronous content to its electronic learning offerings. The university said it made a deal to implement Elluminate Live! throughout its campus on the Sun Microsystems platform. This will allow the institution to add live content to distance learning programs in its education, nursing, community health, and business disciplines. Alberta vice provost Paul Sorenson said the “area of online synchronous communication is rapidly evolving.”

Alberta associate CIO Marika Bourque called the technology “one of the tools that can be used in a number of areas other than teaching, such as research collaboration and campus-wide help desk support.” The Elluminate features voice-over IP and Web conferencing technologies.
