Genetec Updates IP Video Application

Genetec has updated its IP video surveillance application. Omnicast 4.5 adds support for ObjectVideo analytics technology as well as video devices with built-in analytics.

The new release includes password-protected video export and support for additional camera models from several well known manufacturers. Omnicast allows the security administrator to manage digital, video, audio, and data across an IP network.

Version 4.5 supports ObjectVideo OnBoard, a technology that analyzes video for the detection, classification, and tracking of objects of interest according to user-defined rules. Configuration of rules can now be done using the Omnicast client interface. Analytics events sent by the camera to Omnicast can be managed to make the system react based on classification, such as motion detection, removal of an object, camera tampering, or loitering. Based on the type of event, the system can be programmed with specific actions, such as generating an alarm to a group of users, displaying the video to specific operators, or providing a procedure for handling the particular event.

These events are also stored by Omnicast, and users can conduct after-the-fact investigations, searching based on type of event through Genetec's Archive Player, which shows the user streams from cameras post-event.

Currently, the video units with ObjectVideo Ready capabilities include the Pelco IXE20DN and IXE20C and a variety of LanAccess onSafe models. Additional devices from Bosch, Sony, and Panasonic are also supported in Omnicast 4.5. The new release also offers an IQinVision extension, which provides support for IQinVision cameras.

An added feature in Omnicast 4.5 is the password-protected video export, which allows users to export video files with a custom encryption key. This new features ensures that only the recipient is able to view the file, using the same encryption key to decrypt the file.
