Update: Education Licensing Announced for Photoshop/Premiere Elements 9

Adobe Wednesday released details about educational licensing for its newly announced Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9. As previously reported, Adobe launched version 9 of the two applications Tuesday, updating the digital media production tools and bringing Premiere Elements to the Mac OS X platform for the first time.

Premiere is a video editing tool for hobbyist-level production, a lower-end version of the company's professional-level NLE, Premiere Pro (which is also cross-platform). Photoshop Elements is similarly a lighter version of Adobe Photoshop. Both are used fairly widely in education.

With the release of version 9, both tools gain enhanced organizational features via Organizer, including automated analysis of images and video to help users sort through the clutter and find higher-quality footage quickly. Each also gains new creative features, including a Cartoon effect in Premiere Elements and additional tools in Photoshop Elements, such as a Spot Healing Brush adapted from Photoshop CS5 and a feature called Photomerge Style Match, which is designed to allows users to apply the qualities of one image (such as color and contrast) to another.

Further details about the features in releases can be found here.

For education users, Adobe is offering the Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9 bundle for $119. Individual products are available for $69. Both are available now for Mac OS X and Windows.

In addition, Adobe is making online training available free for educators.

Additional details about the products, as well as links to download trial versions of the software, can be found on Adobe's site here. Information on professional development resources can be found here.
