Cornell Names Dodds Chief Information Officer
Following a nationwide search, Cornell University has named Ted Dodds as its new chief information officer. Dodds is moving into the newly created position from the University of British Columbia, where he has served as vice provost of information technology and, from 1997 to 2009, as CIO, according to information released by Cornell.
Cornell said the position of CIO was created as a "key part of the university's vision for coordinated campuswide IT strategy and service delivery." In this role, Dodds will be responsible for leading and developing a vision for IT at the university's campus in Ithaca, NY, and developing "long-term technology strategies that focus on value-added services to campus and will continue the cost-reduction initiatives that are in progress." He's expected to report to Joanne DeStefano, vice president of finance and CFO.
"I feel a great sense of energy and enthusiasm at the prospect of joining Joanne and the senior leadership team of Cornell University," Dodds said in a statement released by Cornell. "My intent is to build on the institution's known strengths in innovation and collaboration across many aspects of information technology. Working actively with the broader university community of students, faculty and staff, I look forward to developing strategic approaches that meet their needs and, collectively, reimagining IT at Cornell."
Dodds is a member of the Kuali Foundation, an open source organization for education institutions and other organizations, and has been involved with Educause, a nonprofit technology-focused association for higher education.
Dodds will hold the title of vice president in addition to CIO. He'll assume his new post beginning Jan. 17.
