Seton Hall To Add BI Software to Business Courses

Seton Hall University will be using business intelligence software shortly in some of its business classes. The New Jersey university has received a donation of licensing to Style Intelligence, a BI application from InetSoft Technology. Students in Seton's Stillman School of Business will be applying the software in its Computing and Decision Sciences department, which offers courses in quantitative methods and IT.
The school received the software through InetSoft's academic alliance program, which offers educational institutions free licensing within the classroom setting.
"The Computing and Decision Sciences department consistently tries to incorporate real-world experience and tools into the school's curriculum," said David Rosenthal, chair of the department. "After seeing the power and flexibility of InetSoft's data visualization software, the department thought this would be the perfect vehicle to provide students in a variety of courses exposure to this class of software."
Style Intelligence provides dashboard reporting with a data mashup engine. Data mashup capabilities allow the user to bring together data from multiple sources to populate dashboards, do production reporting, and provide visualization.
"This school in particular is interested in giving students hands-on experience using this kind of software for visual analysis, which is a software tool for seeing trends and outliers in large amounts of data," explained Mark Flaherty, InetSoft's chief marketing officer.
The software comes with an unlimited user license through the company's Academic Alliance Program. According to Flaherty, the value of the donation is about $100,000. With these kinds of arrangements, he added, the company provides remote setup and introductory training to the person who will be managing the software. It will perform ongoing support through an online forum monitored by the vendor's technical staff.
