Canon ProAV Compact Projectors Target Large Classrooms

Canon this week unveiled five new portable multimedia projectors for higher education. The company plans to showcase the Pro AV Compact Installation LCOS projector series at next month's Infocomm 2013 conference in Orlando, Florida.

Canon's new models include two WUXGA-resolution (1920 x 1200) projectors, the REALiS WUX450 and REALiS WUX400ST. The WUX450 delivers an output of 4,500 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. Other features include:

  • 1.8x zoom;
  • 4,000-hour lamp life in economy mode;
  • ± 20 degree vertical keystone correction;
  • Single 5 watt speaker.

The WUX400ST, a short throw projector, offers a brightness of 4,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. Other features include:

  • 1:0.557 throw ratio;
  • 1.8x zoom;
  • 0-75 degrees vertical keystone correction (manual);
  • Single 5 watt speaker.

The new lineup also includes two WXGA-resolution (1440 x 900) projectors, the REALiS WX520, and REALiS WX450ST. The WX520 offers a brightness of 5,200 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. Other features include:

  • 1.35x zoom
  • 4,000-hour lamp life in economy mode;
  • ± 20 degree vertical keystone correction;
  • Single 5 watt speaker.

The WX450ST, another short throw model, offers an output of 4,500 lumens and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. Other features include:

  • 1.35x zoom;
  • 1:0.571 throw ratio;
  • 0-75 degrees vertical keystone correction (manual);
  • Single 5 watt speaker.

Each projector features 16:10 aspect ratio.

Input terminals for the new models include USB, DVI, component video, HDMI, and dual stereo minijacks. Each projector comes with single stereo minijack output and a LAN (RJ-45) port. The WUX450, WX520, and WX450ST also include an RS-232C port.

Each projector in the new series is available in a "D" version, which features DICOM simulation mode with grayscale gradation display for "medical images such as X-rays, CAT scans and MRIs," according to a statement from Canon. The company stated that the new models have not been approved for medical diagnosis purposes.

The new projectors will be available this September. The WUX450, WUX400ST, WX520, and WX450ST will carry list prices of $5,499, $6,899, $4,999, and $6,299, respectively. Additional information can be found online at Canon's Web site.
