Duke Takes on Parking Challenge with T2 System

Duke University will be turning to an online system for parking management during a period in which the campus has a number of construction projects underway. The North Carolina institution will be adopting software and equipment from T2 Systems, which will design and implement the new system.

The company's Parking Access and Revenue Control System (PARCS) includes a Web-based, hosted program that provides parking administrators with real-time access to gated lots and facilities remotely. System options also includes access control equipment, such as ticket dispensers and stations for entry, exit, and pay, and barrier gates.

"We wanted a technical solution to help us maximize and increase parking utilization across the university and health system," said Sam Veraldi, the university's director of Parking and Transportation services. "We look forward to working with T2 to help us enhance the user experience and align our parking technology and practices to support alternative transportation efforts and other goals."

Duke chose T2 particularly for its reporting capabilities, according to a statement from the company. "T2 will drive productivity and cost effectiveness for Duke," noted Tom Wunk, VP of PARCS. "Enhanced technology and specific expertise in parking management are essential to managing access and revenue control, minimizing costs and providing organized data to support informed business decisions for the University."

The challenge of parking management has become more acute in recent months because of new construction on the campus and the opening of a new auditorium, which have required the move of some traditional parking venues to new locations farther away.
