HP Launches 64-bit Atom Tablets

HP today announced two tablets powered by the 64-bit Intel Atom processor: the redesigned HP ElitePad 1000 and the new HP ProPad 600. Both are available with an array of accessories for enhanced mobility and security.

ElitePad 1000
Upgraded with a brighter and more durable touchscreen, the ElitePad 1000 offers a 16:10 aspect ratio, 4G connectivity and Window 8.1 compatibility. The company's thinnest tablet to date at 9.2 mm, the ElitePad weighs 1.5 pounds and features a 10.1-inch WUXGA multi-touch panel. Other specs include:

  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display screen
  • CNC-machined aluminum unibody chassis
  • Optional Qualcomm Gobi 4G LTE modem
  • 64 GB or 128 GB internal storage
  • LPDDR3 1067 MHz, 4 GB memory

A variety of features can be added on via HP's Smart Jacket accessories. For example, the Expansion Jacket extends battery life and offers additional connectivity options; the Productivity Jacket provides a built-in keyboard, USB ports, adjustable stand and more; and the Security Jacket includes multifactor user authentication through smart card support and a fingerprint reader.

The HP ElitePad is expected to be available in March for a starting price of $739.

ProPad 600
The ProPad 600 offers Windows 8.1, preloaded HP apps and up to 64 GB of storage — plus a microSD expansion slot for 32 GB more space. Other specs include:

  • 10-inch WUXGA Corning Gorilla Glass display
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Built-in micro-HDMI
  • Integrated HP ePrint software

Microsoft Defender18 provides protection against virus attacks and other threats, while a software-based TPM solution protects against identity theft and certificate-based hacks.

The HP ProPad is expected to be available in April; pricing not yet set.
