Apple is replacing the iPad 2 with the fourth-generation iPad with Retina Display as the entry-level model in its 9.7-inch tablet line.

The bottom-of-the-line model, which runs $399, includes a 9.7-inch Retina display (2,048 x 1,536 resolution at 264 PPI) and runs on an Apple A6X chip, a dual-core CPU with integrated quad-core graphics processing capabilities.

The low-end model features:

  • 16 GB storage;
  • Dual-channel (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi;
  • Bluetooth 4.0;
  • Front and rear cameras (1.2 megapixels ad 5 megapixels, respectively); and
  • 1080p video recording capabilities.

The 16 GB fourth-generation iPad with Retina Display is available now for $399. Additional details can be found on Apple's site.
