Mississippi Community Colleges Deploy Analytics to Reduce Online Dropouts

The Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB) has adopted a tool from an education analytics company in an effort to reduce dropouts among students in online courses.

The board chose AspirEdu's Dropout Detective in part for its "fully automated risk assessment capabilities," according to a news release.

Dropout Detective is integrated with the schools' learning management systems to analyze student behaviors and success. Through dashboards, the tool can notify administrators, instructors or advisors which students are at risk. The students themselves can also be notified via email.

"One of the key goals of our e-learning division is to find solutions that help us support the success of our students who are taking online courses," said Audra Love Kimble, assistant executive director for e-learning at the MCCB. "Dropout Detective will give us the tools to identify students who need that support. We can then be pro-active in reaching out to our students. We are especially pleased at how the AspirEdu team was able to accommodate our ability to support students who are taking courses at more than one school in our system."
