Drexel Business School To Incorporate Videoconference Content into Academic Programs
Drexel
University's LeBow
College of Business has begun using
a new cloud-based service to record videoconferences and turn them into
searchable, on-demand video content that will then be available to its
3,500 online
and in-class students.
In a pilot program during the business school's
summer session
and with full implementation coming in the fall, LeBow will start using Sonic Foundry's
MediaSite Join cloud service, which it
launched in March.
When a user joins a video call or meeting
as a participant,
the service will automatically record, transcode, index, publish and
incorporate the material into LeBow's existing learning management
system and
enterprise video platform.
The users — faculty and students — can also
incorporate polls,
bookmarks and links into the content created. It has both search and
navigation
functions that allow it to auto-scan and index audio, video and slide
text.
Analytics are available that will show who is
watching what
and when so faculty can better understand viewing behaviors and measure
the
content's impact.
"Real-time video is how today's best schools
communicate and collaborate,"
said Sonic Foundry CEO Gary Weis. "It's essential to be able to pinpoint
and
reference critical information from classroom discussions. By
integrating
Mediasite Join, Drexel University's LeBow College of Business will be
able to
record those interactions for students and faculty to review anytime and
on any
device."
